Taylor makes excellent guitars and we are a real fan of their high end acoustics. While most of the Taylor’s you will see in the large Music stores are their lower to mid range offerings, Taylor does make some fine Master Class instruments with wonderful select woods and high quality workmanship.

From time to time we accept trades or consignments but as a rule we try to limit them to really nice high end instruments. A customer recently approached us about consigning his Taylor, but not just any Taylor. This is a Taylor Presentation Customized with Brazilian Rosewood and Engelmann Spruce.

Based on Taylor’s GC short scale series, this Taylor presentation is essentially a Grand Concert body with a nicely shaped soft cutaway. This one has been customized as we mentioned with some really nice select Brazilian Rosewood on the body and great sounding Premium Engelmann Spruce on the top which he paid dearly for.

The guitar has then been significantly adorned with mother of pearl purfling on the top, sides, back, and wrapping the fret board and head stock. Pretty much where ever you could put mother or pearl purfling on a guitar this one has it, but it all seems to be done tastefully and definitely adds to the over all look of the guitar.

The neck is solid mahogany with an ebony fret board and gold 510 tuners. The fret board is covered from top to bottom with an intricate floral/geometric patterned inlay of Mother of Pearl that mates well with the purfling. The headstock is Ebony with a glass finish edged in MOP purfling and a matching inlay.

The strings are set low and fast with some of the best action I have seen on any guitar. With a set of Curt Mangan Light Gauge Phosphor Bronze strings it sounds sweet. The intonation is perfect and it has a lot of mid range harmonics.

If you are a Taylor fan and are looking for one of their finest instruments, this could be it. It is a truly fine guitar that plays easily and sounds wonderful. It is also one of the most adorned guitars ever with Mother of Pearl every where you can put it but all tastefully done. This would be a great collector’s instrument or perfect for a performing professional as well.
