With the larger Auditorium body and soft cutaway, an A15 from Breedlove is an exceptional guitar all by itself, but what happens when you add a killer select Cocobolo body with Sap Wood strip down the center? If that wasn’t enough how about adding a highly figured Bear Claw Sitka top and Master Class Flamed Maple bindings. Why stop there, we added what Breedlove calls their McKenzie inlay at the 12th fret. The McKenzie is an intricate stylized Musical Cleft in colorful Abalone and Mother of Pearl.
When you add all of this up you have a unique and phenomenal looking instrument. It is equipped with a Mahogany neck and Gold and Black Gotoh tuners. The Bear Claw top is off set with a Master Class Abalone and Mother of Pearl Rosette with matching Flamed Maple rim.
As the photos show this is a stunningly beautiful guitar but what does it sound like? We recently did a private showing with a live comparison for a customer that included the Custom A15 with a Breedlove King Koa, Custom C25 Koa/Koa, an all Koa Custom Warrior, and a Froggy Bottom MK-Std in Koa and Adirondack. In reality this was supposed to be an all Koa comparison but we had just received the Breedlove A15 so we through it in as well for contrast.
While all of these great Koa instruments sounded wonderful, I was not sure what to expect from the Breedlove Cocobolo A15. This guitar caught my attention immediately with its warm luscious tones. It had tons of midrange and low end and more volume than any of the other more expensive instruments. If someone does not buy it, it will go straight into my own personal collection. I love everything about this guitar.
