Here's another great Baker guitar, available for sale here at Imagine. I took
this instrument in on trade against another Baker, and it is absolutely fantastic.
But I am still in love with my Baker BJC, and while I would love to keep this
beautiful instrument as a second Baker, other needs supercede that desire.
So, here we go!
As the title says, this is a Baker Junior Hollow - actually a semi-hollow
construction, with a solid center block. This instrument was originally built
for the 100th NAMM, and is serial number 5/100. A single saber-tooth sound
hole adorns the bass side of the body. A flat maple top with a gorgeous AAAA
quilt with a fantastic tobacco sunburst sits on a body of Mahogany. The body
and neck are bound with Ivoroid, and the Rosewood fret board has simple, classic
dot markers.
This instrument has a Tone-Pros locking bridge and tailstop, and a scale length
of 24.625". Fingerboard width at the nut is 1 11/16". The pickups
are DiMarzio P90s. Tuners are Schaller Rotomatics, and the guitar is equipped
with Schaller Strap lock buttons. I'd like to include even more detailed specs,
but the Baker instrument registry at meangene.org is down at the moment. I
will post this information if it becomes available. If in the meantime you
need a measurement or specification that I have not included, please email.
Tonally, this guitar is an absolute wonder - a very (very, very) responsive
guitar. And like every Baker I've had the privilege to put my hands on, fit
and finish are unparalleled. Tight as a tick and set up for excellent playability,
this guitar could not be more ready to go. Condition is phenomenal - the only
thing worth mentioning is the top of the tailpiece, which has a little bit
of cloudiness. And that's being really picky - this guitar is in superb shape,
and in collector condition. That's the second reason I've opted not to keep
it. If I kept it, I would likely gig with it, and I can't bring myself to
be the one to inflict the first ding. But whether you buy it to play every
day in every situation, or you buy it to play on once a week with white gloves
on, you're set either way, because Gene Baker makes some of the most sublimely
playable works of art you'll find anywhere.
Comes with hardshell case as pictured. Also includes warranty card and Certificate
of Authenticity,
