The Breedlove Cascade mandolin is destined to be a classic, in my humble opinion.
Breedlove mandolins are turning heads for their looks and their sound. Supremely
playable, they're tough to put down. The Breedlove Cascade represents the
union of the classic F-hole/tone-bar bracing design, Breedlove's sharp aesthetics,
and their incredibly responsive body design.
This particular Cascade was originally a custom-order. It has an Amber/Honey
toner finish, giving it a warm, rich, golden glow, and the hardware has been
upgraded to gold finish, too. A neck strap pin has been added (nice!) The
binding was also upgraded to Ivoroid, rather than the black binding of the
standard Cascade model. Apparently there was a misunderstanding between the
customer and the shop as to the nature of the toner finish, and the customer
ultimately requested a straight blonde finish instead. And now, this custom
Cascade will soon be on the way to yet another soon-to-be-ecstatic new owner.
This instrument is in mint condition, plays wonderfully, and is a particularly
good example of the Breedlove mandolin craft. I speak from experience - I've
either owned or "looked after for extended periods of time", quite
a few Breedlove mandolins - high-end and entry-level, newer and older. Currently,
I am picking my way on a sweet and simple Breedlove Quartz OO, as I decided
I was not playing enough to justify owning a top-notch model. But I thought
about hanging on to this Cascade and selling my Quartz - this Cascade is a
keeper!
