This is the Breedlove Fusion - a nicely appointed and well-equipped Breedlove
that is as ready for the stage as it is for your living room. Outfitted with
an "S" series Performance Package, the Fusion features a Sitka Spruce
Top, Mahogany Back and sides, Black Bound Body and Neck, Ebony Fingerboard
and Peghead Overlay, Breedlove Focus Inlay, Fishman Matrix Natural 1 pickup
(later model stock Fusions include the Fishman pro blender, but the Matrix
was standard when this guitar was made in 1991) and D'Addario EXP light gauge
strings.
This guitar has spent most of its life in a dealer showroom, but it recently
came back to Breedlove due to a minor finish issue. What seems to have happened
is that the guitar wood "sucked in" the high gloss finish a little
bit over time. The result is a finish that upon close examination is not flawlessly
mirror-flat. Basically, if you look very very closely at the top and back
of the instrument, you can see in places what looks like the natural surface
of the wood in relief at the surface of the finish. This is a very subtle
imperfection - you really have to go looking to see this, and even then, you
might not think anything of it. In addition, there is a tiny finish lift on
the bass side of the neck, right near the joint with the body.
Otherwise, this instrument is stellar in every way. I've always liked the
Breedlove Fusion package - these guitars always seem to sound great, play
sweetly, and offer a lot of responsiveness and solid tone in a very comfortable
package. And the Fusion reflects the heart of the Breedlove aesthetic in a
very tasteful way.
